NEW CHARACTER DESIGNS

If you've been reading my blog for a while you might remember this post from this time last year where I wrote about a new personal project I was working on. I am still working on said project on a weekly basis and I've just finished up two new character ideas for it!

You can find out more about the whole theme of the project by reading the original post linked above but the basic idea is that the Earth is shattered into lots of smaller pieces, which has also caused the sea bed to rise and in turn, the sea creatures have evolved and mutated to be able to live out of water.

So there will be human and sea creature characters, both will have good guys and bad guys, and I really wanted the bad guys of the sea creature species to be influenced by the bigger sea creatures we have today such as sharks, killer whales and maybe even seals (they might be cute but they're actually quite dangerous!). I absolutely love sharks and think that they're so interesting to look at, so I got started on those first.

I tried to think about what the sharks might look like if they mutated and what they might use to fight and protect themselves. Baring in mind the sea floor is still their home, I tried to think about what they might be able to scavenge from wreckages or from anything else that might have been washed away at some point.

So as you can see this guy has got a tangled parachute covering his torso, it might not be great in for protection but this character is clearly a leader and needs to stand out. The idea is that the bad guys will ride the monsters from the original post, so he has their claws tied to his arms as weapons, along with a barrel on his foot and scuba diving bottoms on his legs. He also has a poisonous squid tentacle wrapped round his wrist for some super effective uppercuts.

The second shark character has a slightly more slender frame as he's more of a fighter. He's got a life jacket for armour on his top half and thick rope wrapped around his leg for even more protection. He stepped into a lobster cage at some point, which was a bit of an accident but the cage itself definitely acts as a great shield for his leg! As for weapons , this guy has got two helicopter blades to swing at anyone or anything that gets in his way.

It took me a while to get these two finished, because although I've done a couple of finished pieces for this project already, I wanted this character sheet to set the standard for the rest of the project now that I have a more clear idea of what I want it to look like. So I might also end up reworking the previous character designs to fit more with this aesthetic.

I hope you guys like these and I'm thinking about possibly creating a physical product for this project at some point!
