The Importance of Writing a diary.
I'm a little bit of a sucker for those articles full of tricks and tips for the self employed, especially the ones that claim to help your work flow or even just help you to start thinking in the right mind set. Sometimes they're awesome, sometimes they're full of absolutely crap! The other day though, I came across one that I thought was really interesting and that has now influenced me to start doing something that I never would have before....writing a diary every day.
I always felt a little weird about a diary before, purely because I've always thought that you just write down what you did that day, which I can see the point of, but it was just never for me. However the the article I read explains it a little differently.
It still involves writing down what you've done that day, but it allows you to keep track of where you are and where you're going. I personally find this really helpful as I believe the only person you should be in competition with is yourself, therefore being able to see your own progress towards your goals can be really, really motivating.
This also means you can keep track of your diet, fitness and most proactive/creative time periods, which is obviously great when you're working from home as the only person who is going to look after yourself is you!
The biggest positive I've taken from keeping a diary is being able to monitor and change my motivation levels through writing down my feelings, lessons learnt, what I'd like to do differently and trying to note down a different motivational quote everyday, even if it's just a couple of words to myself.
To head over to the article I'm talking about simply just click here. I'd highly recommend giving it a read as you may take different things from it than I did. Even if you just try it for a week, you've got nothing to lose and it might make you realise a few things about you and the way you work which you might not have noticed before!
Or maybe you already write one? I'd be interested to know what you guys do differently when writing your own diaries! Let me know in the comments below...
